A Moment in Time – Jennifer Patterson

Jennifer E. Patterson is a native of Huntsville, Alabama where she was educated in Huntsville City Schools and at Oakwood Academy. She earned a bachelor of science in Elementary Education from Oakwood College (now University), a master of education in Elementary Education from Alabama A&M University, and a doctorate in Reading & Literacy also from Alabama A&M University.

For the past 18 years, Jennifer has been active in the ministry of education from many perspectives. She began her career as an elementary school classroom teacher in Huntsville City Schools, where she taught 2nd, 3rd, and 4th grades and also served as a Literacy Coach. She taught developmental and critical reading in the Alabama two-year college system as well as taught undergraduate and graduate students in reading at Alabama A&M University. Additionally, she had the pleasure of teaching undergraduate and graduate teacher candidates in the area of teaching reading via distance education at Western Governors University.

Recently, God led Jennifer in stepping away from traditional teaching to pursue entrepreneurship by starting her own business, My Bookworm Project Educational Services LLC, an initiative positioned to help raise awareness of and impact literacy education in the local community. In addition, Jennifer offers private instruction, tutorial services, basic assessment, and consultation services for individuals and families in the Huntsville/Madison area. A favorite quote of hers is “Teaching is not the filling of pails, but the lighting of fires” and she truly believes that the most important, most incredible, most valuable, and most rewarding work she has ever been involved in is motivating others to learn and discover what will ultimately propel them toward success!
