The Crooked Christmas Tree – FLAWS AND ALL
FLAWS AND ALL
Last night I was in New York City. What an amazing place to be for the Holidays. I saw the Empire State Building, Radio City Music Hall and Madison Square Garden. The lights of Time Square and the window display at Newman Marcus.
But I think the greatest thing I saw last night, towering above the people with multicolored twinkling lights was the Christmas Tree at Rockefeller Center. Since 1933 the Christmas tree at Rockefeller has been a tradition. It’s scouted for an entire year. Chosen from among many applicants and arrives with great pomp and television flare.
But with all that pomp one thing never fails. The tree is beautiful but it’s never perfect. No tree is. Every tree has a flaw and every branch a bend. What we normally do with those flaws is hide them. We turn the flaws toward the wall where no one will see them. Cover the sparse gaps with ribbon to distract.
But not the tree at Rockefeller Center. There are no corners and no Wall for it to hide its flaws. And so it stands defiant to piecing eyes in the middle of the square seemingly unashamed.
Like trees there are no perfect people. Yet we do whatever we can to hide our flaws from each other. Until one brave soul steps into the middle of the square and declares My name is Damian and I am flawed. And when ever I do I find that God is not surprised by my crookedness
He accepts me as His Son
Flaws and all
My name is Damian Chandler and I am the author of The Crooked Christmas Tree
