The Crooked Christmas Tree – DOWNGRADE FOR AN UPGRADE
DOWNGRADE FOR AN UPGRADE
Was checking in for my flight the other day and after I had entered my name and destination it asked me if I wanted an upgrade
I could upgrade from a middle seat to a window seat
I could upgrade from economy to business class
I could even upgrade from business class to First class
Now I knew from watching beyond the first class vale that there was a vast difference between a first class seat and my economy seat.
First class came with privileges
Large leather seats
Tons of amenities
Endless supply of food and drinks
A steward or stewardess who waited on you hand and foot.
Of course I wanted that upgrade but upgrades ain’t free and I couldn’t afford it.
Then I heard a story of a professional athlete who saw a soldier boarding his flight. He felt such gratitude for the battles she fought for his freedom that he gave her his seat. Rather than being upgraded he took a down grade and gave her the seat he paid for.
I was badly in need of an upgrade. The cost for a seat at heavens welcome table was beyond what I could afford. But John 1 tells me that Jesus saw me trying to board. And so the Word became flesh took a downgrade.
He was born in a stable. That was a down grade. In a womb He created. That was a downgrade. To be worshipped by shepherds. That was a downgrade. And be crucified on a cross. That was a down grade.
He too a downgrade He didn’t deserve to give me an upgrade I could never earn.
He voluntarily gave me His seat and told me “Don’t worry son. It’s paid for.”
Now that my friends is the Christmas Story.
