My Rib, My Love, My Eve
Today is a special day. I want to divert from the topical flow that I have
been engaging and celebrate and acknowledge my bride—Mrs. Bobbie
Douglas. Today, our marriage enters its teens, as we celebrate 13 years
of marital joy. I have been blessed with an amazing family who raised
and nurtured me; but how many of you can testify that marrying the
wrong person can undo a lot of good! Praise God, I married the right
person and I have blossomed as a result of this union.
If my parents and experiences through young adulthood are what made
me, Bobbie has come along and made me even better as an adult. 13
years ago on Sunday, June 18 th 2006, a Father’s Day, I married my
friend. It has been a so amazing journey! We chronicle aspects of our
experiences in our book “So Amazing…Her Story: Secrets to Finding and
Keeping a Great Man.” But the book really isn’t about me, I promise.
It’s about what marriage can look like when it is grounded Jesus, who is
the ultimate Great Man. Bobbie shares her amazing life story and at the
end of each chapter, I share how her journey impacts me as a husband
in a section called “His Thoughts.”
Here’s a brief excerpt from “So Amazing…Her Story”:
“Bobbie is consistently positive and extremely loyal. These are two
qualities—two secrets—that women would do well to emulate if they
desire to find and keep a great man. Her upbeat spirit and positive
outlook are not circumstantial. As a husband, her infectious personality
doesn’t just make you want to live with her; she simply makes you want
to live! This is not every man’s experience. Many husbands live with
women who suck the life out of them. Instead of wanting to live, they
are dying on the inside as a result…. She takes her marriage vows very
seriously, as do I. She is fully committed in sickness and in health, in
plenty and in lack. That’s what it is like to be loved by her.”
You should check the book out on online.
Here’s my reality: I likely wouldn’t be a “Border Crossing Brotha” if I
hadn’t hooked up with Mrs. So Amazing. I think I’m ready to write the
follow up project: “So Amazing…His Story: Secrets to Finding and
Keeping a Great Woman.”
If I could wax poetic for a second, I’d describe Bobbie like this:
Bobbie is sweet. She is steady. She is wise. She is kind/
She is cooler cool, consistently consistent. I smile when she comes to
my mind.
She is Godly. She’s a prayer warrior. Low maintenance and fun/
She is sexy. She is stylish, She’s my undisputed number 1.
She is a great friend and an amazing mother, the men around her
become better / She’s my secret sauce who’s not afraid to say: “Babe,
take off that dated sweater”
I’m convinced that if more men had a bride like my boo/
There would be far less divorces; I’m telling you it’s true
And that’s not to disparage other wives and sistahs, a lot of brothas
have room to grow/ It’s because through my life and studies of over
100 men, here’s one key thing I’ve come know:
Being fully known and fully accepted is what most men really desire/
Show me a man whose heart can safely rest with his bride…that’s a
marriage that can remain on fire.
I’m actually traveling on our anniversary today; I have her permission;
she’s so cool/ I made sure to leave her some flowers and this poem;
fellas, I ain’t no fool.
Not that she would be trippin or complaining, when you value someone
you let them know/ I’m loving life with my bride, my friend, and I want
to maintain that glow.
Marriage can be So Amazing is the message I want you to receive/
The key for me was seeking Daddy and asking Him for My Rib, My Love,
My Eve.
Surprise, Babe! Happy Anniversary!
