The Crooked Christmas Tree – OUT OF GAS
OUT OF GAS
I was driving on the highway one day in Seattle Washington. There was no traffic
The engine was singing
The car was cruising
And I was doing around 70
All of a sudden out of no where the car started to sputter
And then slow down.
I responded by sinking my foot into the gas peddle eventually pushing it all the way to the floor. But the more I pressed that peddle the slower the car got.
The car was now decelerating quickly.
70, 60, 40
Too quick for the Tractor trailer behind me
In my rear view mirror I could see the smoke rising from his tires as it did all it could not to absolutely demolish my car
Thank God he missed me but only by inches
I eventually got the car off the freeway and pulled into a gas station
The gas gauge said full but with everything else checking out I decided to put some fuel in anyway and I ended up having to put in a full tank of gas.
How is it that I pumped a full tank into a car whose gas gauge said full you ask?
My gas gauge was broken so that I did not know how empty I really was.
Some you listening to me have felt your life changing. 70, 60, 40. Your response to the change in speed and interest and passion is to sink your foot into your gas peddle and do more. But you are not responding the way you are used to. You’ve checked the gauges and everything looks fine. Spiritual life, Relationships, finances? All check
But what you don’t realize is that you are running on empty. The gauges you use are broken. The’ve been broken for a while.
What you need is rest. So before these holidays pass and you go back to your busy life, how about pulling into Jesus’s gas station and allow Him to give you a full tank of it.
